«The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU or EEU) is an economic union of some post-Soviet states located in Eurasia. The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union was signed on 29 May 2014.

One of the key initiatives in the field of free trade and economic cooperation is the proposal on linking the Eurasian economic integration and China’s strategic Silk Road Economic Belt project. The relevant communique was signed by Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping on 8 March 2015.While the linking mostly is understood as support for infrastructure investments, there are ongoing negotiations between the EAEU and China on a trade and economic agreement in order to build an open economic architecture without a political component, oriented on business and reducing barriers.»

«Greater Eurasian Partnership.

It is common knowledge that Eurasia is the largest continent on Earth, spanning over one-third of the planet’s total area. It is also the most populous, with over two-thirds of the global population calling the continent home. Eurasia has tremendous natural resources, from oil and gas to freshwater and fertile lands.

The Greater Eurasian Partnership Concept first introduced by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in late 2015 proceeds from the premise that the first steps in This direction should be taken in the economic architecture of the Eurasian continent, rather than in the political or military spheres.

the Partnership is not viewed as a potential competitor for regional integration structures (ASEAN, EAEU, RCEP) or trans-border economic projects (BRI) or organizations (the SCO, APEC, ASEM). On the contrary, all of those structures, projects and organizations are seen as nodes and individual parts of the future single Eurasian economic mechanism

Unlike the rigid integration structures like the European Union, the Partnership envisages highly flexible forms of involving individual states or their regional groups in its activities. As they are ready, these countries may join individual dimensions of the Partnership (trade, finance, infrastructure, visa, etc.) with due account of their current needs and capabilities.

The building of the “Greater Eurasian Partnership” should proceed from the ground up, and not top-down, that is, it should be based on specific, even if very modest agreements between regional integration unions and individual states.»

Xi, Putin Building ‘More Just’ World Order, Top China Envoy Says.

Beijing: China is willing to shape the international order together with Russia in a “more just and rational direction”, a senior Chinese diplomat said as the two countries’ leaders prepare to meet this week.

Former Cold War allies with a tempestuous relationship, China and Russia have drawn closer in recent years as part of what they call a “no limits” relationship acting as a counterweight to the global dominance of the US.

“Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, the relationship between the two countries has always moved forward on the right track,” the Communist Party’s foreign affairs chief Yang Jiechi told Russia’s ambassador to China Andrey Denisov on Monday, according to a foreign ministry readout.

Yang said China was “willing to work with Russia to continuously implement the spirit of high-level strategic cooperation between the two countries, safeguard the common interests of both sides, and promote the development of the international order in a more just and rational direction”, according to the ministry.

Denisov in response praised the “fruitful results” of bilateral relations, the readout said.

Russia has sought to bolster ties with Asian countries, particularly China, since being hit with unprecedented Western sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.

Heightening tensions between China and the West, Beijing has not condemned Moscow’s interventions in Ukraine, and provided diplomatic cover by blasting Western sanctions and arms sales to Kyiv.

Putin and Xi are set to meet in Uzbekistan this week, on the sidelines of a summit of regional countries.

Last week, Beijing’s top legislator Li Zhanshu became the highest-ranking Communist Party politician to travel to Russia since the Ukraine invasion.

Li on his visit hailed an “unprecedented level” of trust and cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.
