«any way, for example by providing food or even by giving information on how to apply for asylum. The accusation of “conspiracy to facilitate illegal immigration” was made against NGOs that use their boats to rescue migrants in the Mediterranean: between March and April 2018, the Spanish NGO rescue ship “Proactiva Open Arms” was seized by the Catania and Ragusa prosecutors and then released»

Zero Hedge è tranchant.

«At the end of May 2016, Proactiva decided to allocate a ship in the Central Mediterranean to assist the migrants that came out of the coasts of Libya. The agreement between the EU and Turkey was making the Aegean Sea route more difficult to traverse, so other more dangerous channels were re-opened.

They have been accused of being part of the human trafficking network, by taking migrants on board in pre-arranged locations close to the African coast and transporting them to Italy, Malta or Spain. This practice violates international maritime law, which states that people who are rescued should be transported to the nearest port. Such activities may encourage more migrants to take the risk of a dangerous trip to Europe, which intensifies the tensions on the Mediterranean Sea.[

In August 2017 Proactiva boats were barred by Italy and Malta from disembarking migrants. Proactiva also came in close contact with the Libyan coastguard who fired warning shots over one of its boats»

Così si dipende la Proactiva Open Arms.

«Open Arms is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose main mission is to protect, by having a presence at sea,  those people who try to reach Europe fleeing from war, persecution or poverty. Born from a rescue and first aid at sea company with extensive experience in the Spanish coasts.

We specialize in surveillance and rescue missions of boats carrying people who need help in the Aegean and Central Mediterranean sea, as well as raising awareness of all the injustices that are happening which have been untold.

It all started with some pictures of children that drowned on a beach. We thought: if we dedicate ourselves to this and we do it on our beaches, why are they dying there and why is nobody helping them?

With the help of lots of people who collaborate with donations, we were able to increase our resources and save more lives every day.

These donations also helped us to be able to rotate our teams. Our volunteers rotate every 15 days due to the physical and emotional impact of the situation.

After the agreement between the UE and Turkey, we are also in the Mediterranean Sea with a rescue and surveillance boat. We do not want to lose one more life to the sea, neither do we want to allow the sea to silence the injustices that happen there. ….

Open Arms is a “supporting entity” of Human Rights at Sea, which is an independent international platform for the preservation of human rights at sea. ….

Open Arms is an entity associated to the Department of Public Information of the United Nations. ….

From September 1st 2017 to September 1st 2018, contributions reached to 3.5 million euros. Open Arms has total economic independence thanks to all the small contributions from private individuals. ….

Ansa. 2019-08-07. Malta nega sbarco a Open Arms
