E siamo solo agli inizi…

Questo è l’annuncio dell’European Startup Association.

«he German Startup Association declares with immediate effect, its withdrawal from the European Startup Network (ESN), on the basis of having a different notion on issues of corporate governance.

The German Startup Association would have desired a far more transparent approach to issues of remuneration from the ESNs Board of Management. For months the German Vice-President of then ESN, Florian Nöll, was not informed in an appropriate manner, about relevant financial transactions.

“Against this background, it is no longer possible for us to work with the ESN. No organization should work in the way this network has done,” explained Florian, who is also Chairman of the German Startup Association. “We are disappointed with the behavior of ESN’s Managing Directors and the Board.”

For this reason, prior to ESN’s annual General Meeting in Brussels, on June 27th 2017, Florian Nöll had already resigned from his position as Vice-President of the ESN. In light of the incidents, the President of the ESN, Nils Erik Jansson, also offered to vacate his position at the General Meeting. Still the necessary new beginning did not happen at this meeting. The Board of Directors of the German Startup Association thereupon decided unanimously to withdraw from the ESN.

The German Startup Association co-initiated the founding of the ESN and played a significant role in the development of the network, both through financial and organizational assistance. Accordingly, a staff member was posted in Brussels, sponsorship was secured and with the European Startup Monitor, a Europe-wide communication project from Germany was realized. Means and Organizational performance, without which a European network, according to the German Startup Association’s perception, would not be possible. Current support of the Network is being terminated, effective from today.

Florian Nöll stated, “we leave with a heavy heart, because we are still convinced that startups need a strong voice in Europe. The ESN in our opinion, has lost its credibility and therefore can no longer take on this role.”

For this very reason, going forward, the German Startup Association wants to continue to play a noticeable role within European politics and decision making.“The exact form the new initiative should take on, is currently being discussed with our friends from all over Europe” says Nöll.

The European Startup Monitor, a Europe wide startup survey, will in any case continue to remain an initiative of the German Startup Association, and be carried on into the future.»
